Hygenic toothbrush - study project, first semester, individual work
ideation
The ideation was mainly about the following questions: How to improve the hygiene of a toothbrush? Where are the current problems?
concept
How do you get rid of all the bacteria from the brushes? A possible solution is to blow away their nutritional basis after brushing. This could be made possible with the help of a CO2 cartridge. Compressed air is led through a channel to small holes between the bristles where it gets rid of humidity.
construction
The idea was brought to life in Solidworks. The mechanism is based on a valve for inflating bicycle tires.
model making
After 3D-printing all the components the fitting and sanding began.
prototype
Due to the small CO2 bikepump this model actually works. It blows away most of the water inside the bristles. Unfortunately sometimes the whole brush head gets airborne :)

A small test shows that the wet brush is significantly drier after a blast of CO2. To really explore the effect, further experiments need to be done.
